
Our Story

YAAWIN or Young Adventurous Adult Writers in the North - was founded in 2015, for the purpose of providing young writers in Cairns the opportunity to collobrate and work together; to foster a community of writing.
For young adults and those young at heart – YAAWIN aims to provide its members with a fun and friendly space to work on their pieces. Whether working on a manuscript, a screenplay, theatre play, blogs, short stories even a comedy set or an environmental paper – whatever sort of writer you are welcome to join us.
Experienced members, are encouraged to share their expertise with new members to foster friendship and a community of writers dedicated to their art.
YAAWIN is non for profit, with no membership fees required. Therefore if you would like to attend, please message us for time, date and location!

YAAWIN is proud to officially announce that we have received RADF Funding to start our Anthology!!!
The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Cairns Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
We would like to offer our heartfelt appreciation to the RADF committee and the Cairns City Council for investing in this new initiative and supporting our writers to complete our first collaborative piece!
Furthermore we would like to offer our sincere appreciation to the following members and organisations who have contributed and supported us towards starting our Anthology:

The proposed Anthology, titled "Fact and Fiction" will include well researched articles about historical sites in Cairns, and use the inspiration of the researched historical sites to further create fictional pieces of work, such as; short stories, songs and poems.
